Lincoln County Students at the River City Rascals
Story and photos by Dave Zarro |
Up close and personal. That's a great way to describe an evening watching a River City Rascals baseball game. In the general admission area, students were right there at the visiting team's bullpen. It's not the Cardinals, but it was still exciting, fun, and a lot more affordable!

About 250 students from Kappel Elementary, Claude Brown Intermediate, Troy Middle School and Bowling Green schools were at the game as Academic All-Stars. Their scholastic performance earned them two free tickets to the game. Since the previous game had been rained out, the students were treated to a double-header against the Evansville Otters.

Between the two games, each student went onto the field and said his or her name and the school he or she attended. It was a big moment for the long line of Academic All-Stars.
They were just as excited about the certificate waiting for them with a $5 gift certificate to QT and an award from the Rascals.

Oh, and you might be wondering who won the double-header games that night. The Rascals won the first game in a thrilling victory 7-6. The second game was won by the Otters, though, in a 14-8 slugfest. It was fun at the ol' ballpark!
