Troy Downtown Association Pumpkin Festival
Story by Dave Zarro; photos by Linda Zarro |
You couldn’t have asked for a better day. A little chilly at first, but then with a bright sun shining down on Main Street, the day warmed beautifully for the families who came out for Troy’s big fall event.
It reminded me of a storybook tale. There were singers singing, dancers dancing and children laughing in the streets. Kettle korn, candy, honey and lots of other goodies were available, and happily being bought for kids—of all ages! Shel and Maurice Wills were cooking up big batches of delicious kettle korn. Maurice was thankful that it was a cool day, since he was busy stirring the hot kernels, popping them to perfection. They have been selling kettle korn at events like this for about five years. |

Ian Brown, of Femme Osage Apiary, was selling honey that his busy bees have produced. He provides bees to farmers for pollination of large crops. He has been requested to send 200 bees to California for the upcoming almond pollination season. Those bees keep busy, but they make delicious honey in the process. He has other products available for sale, too, including pollen, which is a natural vitamin supplement.

Coldwell Banker Gundaker was host for a raffle benefiting the Ronald McDonald House. Area businesses donated merchandise, gift cards and services for baskets. Ellen Schroer and Melba Croney were two of the representatives greeting people and selling raffle tickets.

Many booths were available exhibiting products or providing information. Pony rides, train rides and hay rides were great fun. Face painting is always popular, and music provided by local artists filled the air. And if that isn’t enough, the Lincoln County Kickers Dance Club gave line dancing demonstrations.
